Directory of Football Defenses
Unfortunate that this is out of print. It is an excellent book about all defenses. It lists odd and even defenses and the strengths and weaknesses of each. Particularly valuable is a position by position list, and their basic alignments and keys. I've used it for high school, but you can see application to just good teaching at all levels. I "loaned" mine out and can't get it back. Well worth the time to look for it.

The Everything Motorcycle Book: The One Book You Must Have to Buy, Ride, and Maintain Your Motorcycle (Everything Series)
Published in Paperback by Adams Media Corporation (July, 2002)
Author: A. J. Drew
Average review score:

I think it's an excellent book on the subject of motorcycles

The title is right! This book covers the whole gamut. It discusses the history of the motorcycle, including several facts of which I was unaware; engine configurations; how to get the most power from your motorcycle; categories of motorcycles; advice on buying (not so much brands, as types); accessorizing your bike; clothing and protective gear; how to ride and how NOT to ride; potential disasters (like a synopsis of Hough); preventive maintenance and repairs; and group riding.

In the back of the book the author includes a very complete appendix on clubs and associations, alphabetically by state, as well as a very complete index of subject matter.

The book is very well written, in plain, matter-of-fact English, without pretense, and replete with several lack and white photographs--and a few pages in color--although I noticed that they heavily favored the Harley-Davidson motorcycles. (There were also several Suzukis, a couple Moto-Guzzis and a BMW or two, but Kawasaki and Yamaha were conspicuous by their absence in the black and whites, although Yamaha was represented in the color section.)

Although I own a Kawasaki Vulcan Nomad, I didn't feel slighted, because the text was full of good advice no matter what cycle you are interested in, whether it's chain, belt or shaft drive. For repair or service details he recommends the service manual and owner's manual for your particular bike, which only makes sense.

Author Drew has twenty years of experience (it says on the back cover)as a motorcycle writer and mechanic, and he has an obvious predilection for Harleys. He's owned eight motorcycles.

I think this is an excellent book to have in your library whether or not you own a motorcycle, but would be especially invaluable if you do own and ride one. It contains lots of excellent advice which, if followed, could save untold misery and even, perhaps, your life.

Explorer Chartbook Near Bahamas
Published in Spiral-bound by Lewis Offshore Ltd. (31 December, 1997)
Authors: Sara Lewis, Monty Lewis, Rick Butler, Erin S. Drew, L. Monty Lewis, Sara N. Lewis, and Mary-Kay Lindquist
Average review score:

Excellent chartbook for visiting the islands
Handy chartbook for planning a boat visit to the Bahamas, indispensible for cruising around the islands. The charts show water depths and placement of rocks, hidden shoals, tidal shallows and other such hazards to your hull that might not be visually obvious. Many different charts cover Bimini, Berry, Andros, New Providence and the Grand Bahama islands, show common travel routes with waypoints, lon/lat and helpful hints. Interspersed are pages of text which cover money, groceries, medical services, police, marine supplies, restaurants, radio frequencies, where to buy propane, everything a traveller could want to know about a particular island or area. Well worth the [money]; it should pay for itself on your first cruise. Mine certainly did!

Exploring Current Issues in Educational Technology with Free PowerWeb
Published in Paperback by McGraw-Hill Humanities/Social Sciences/Languages (24 October, 2001)
Authors: Drew Tiene and Albert Ingram
Average review score:

Delightful, insightful read!
Exploring Current Issues in Educational Technology, is a book is designed to get you to think. The authors note that is what makes the book different. It is not just a text providing information to memorize. The first four chapters describe the pedagogical approach of the book and it's topics. Here it explains the problem-based approach and the use of scenarios to prompt critical thinking and group discussion. The book is chiefly designed for future teachers who will be expected to use communications technologies in the classroom. The authors also note that it might also be quite helpful for experienced teachers who need to expand their knowledge of what is available and the issues associated with the effective use of these new technologies. In addition, they point out that Exploring Current Issues in Educational Technology is also for instructional technologists who either have an advanced degree or are working on one. The book is well written, easy to read and understand. It is extremely well organized into twenty chapters, each of which addresses a different issue in the field of instructional technology. This variety of issues offers choice to the reader or the instructor using the text in a college classroom. The topics are compelling and interesting for anyone working in this area. The twenty chapters have been organized into five sections, each reflecting a given theme. The first section covers chapters that deal primarily with educational approaches and leads readers to think about how these techniques can be used in conjunction with technology. This "Curricular Concerns: Strategies and Skills" section discusses experimental and descriptive research. The second section encompasses the chapters that raise controversial issues associated with the implementation of instructional technology. This "Difficult Decisions: Crucial Yet Complicated" section is likely to stimulate lively debate in the classroom. Section 3, "Social Issues: Rights and Responsibilities," deals with the use of technology and social issues that arise from such use. The fourth section, "New Opportunities: Engaging or Enraging?," gives examples of new technology applications and asks how instructors can best take advantage of the new potential. The title of the final section is "Future Possibilities: Virtually No Limitations?," discusses future possibilities and how they might transform schools by the end of this new millennium. The individual chapter topics are truly intriguing and leave the reader wondering which one to read first. This book goes beyond simply providing information; it presents problematic issues and situations in realistic case studies and asks the reader to find solutions. Each chapter ends with a scenario. The scenarios involve issues such as online learning communities, commercial TV in the classroom, copyrights and fair use, replacing books with "Notebooks," artificial intelligence, and researching on the Web. Each scenario is introduced with a clear explanation of why the issues raised are important. The authors have used obviously sprinkled subtle humor throughout the book and it is a delightful and insightful read. They have provided a nice Glossary with the book. The size of the book makes it manageable read on a quiet evening.
